It’s amazing to meet you!

I’m Alice. Some people call me “Coach,” others call me “Doc,” and a few really special ones call me “Momma.” I’ve spent the past decade working closely with members of the military Special Operations community and, more recently, law enforcement. I’ll spare you all the gory details right now as this is our first introduction, but feel free to check out my full resume here if you’re curious!

How did I wind up here, talking to you? It all began with my daughter. Like anyone else, I want to be the best mom that I can be, and as I witnessed her approaching her preteen years, I realized that I’d spent my whole life buying in to masculine definitions of empowerment that didn’t make space for honoring the woman she was becoming.

I had turned into one of those women who defined myself as “not like the other girls.” I thought women were confusing, difficult to make friends with…you know the deal. I was stuck in a feedback loop of regurgitating the lies that society had fed me (and all women) about ourselves. And I knew I couldn’t continue like this if I was going to be the mother, guide, and role model she needed me to be in her teen years.

Maybe you’ve even been there, too. If you have, it’s not your fault - society doesn’t give strong, empowered, feminine women like us much space to define ourselves. We’re usually left to shoehorn ourselves into boxes that don’t really fit quite right (cue the image of Barbie trying to fit herself back into the big pink box at Mattel HQ in the movie - remember?).

Of course, what I had really done was internalize a lot of toxic patriarchal messages. I’d come to believe that to lean in to my femininity was to lean into my weakness - to identify as a player on the losing team - and I couldn’t have been more wrong.

This led me down the path of inqiry that brought me to you! (Remember, I’m a Ph.D., so research is in my blood - once I’ve got a burning quesiton, I don’t stop digging until I find answers!). The problem was that, like many women, I felt alienated and disconnected from mainstream feminism. I wasn’t looking to radicalize my worldview; I just wanted to connect with my own authentic strengths.

I’ve spent so much time serving men in male dominated spaces - Special Ops, law enforcement - while learning powerful lessons in mindset, leadership, and high performance at the same time by having privileged access to those worlds. I found myself asking, why don’t many women feel like we have a stake in these same tools? Maybe the answer was that we needed a female led space to grow in our strengths together, taking ownership of these tools beyond the masculine purview.

This is what inspired me to break out of the boys club and bring that knowledge with me to share with women and girls eveywhere. Cross-pollination of ideas is a world-changing force - I experienced that with my first business, SOFxLE, bringing lessons from elite military Special Operations units like SEAL Team VI and Special Forces to support members of law enforcement. And I’ve seen first hand the power of coaching girls and women using the same formula, without underestimating them. Atalanta Leadership Forge is the next step in that mission - and I’m grateful you’re here for it.

If you’re a girl or a woman, I 100% guarantee you’ve been underestimated in your life. And you might even still be underestimating yourself.

I’m here to change all that.

  • Q: It's 2025. Do we really still need women's empowerment?

    Great question. Keep scrolling…

A: That would be a resounding “YES!” Let me explain.

See, I’ve spent my life playing with the boys. From becoming an All-American collegiate snowboarder in my 20’s and competing as a USA boxing athlete in my 30’s to working as a ghostwriter for Navy SEALs and Special Forces leaders in my 40’s,

Succeeding as a woman in male dominated fields is in my DNA. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t had my ass kicked and heart broken countless times along the way.

I never dreamed I would have the book I co-authored land in the hands of a Super Bowl winning coach, or be called upon to share my message in conference halls filled with Green Berets, executives, SEAL Team VI Officers, and SWAT operators, but here I am.

The craziest part? I built this life while I was a divorced single mom, juggling the unique complexities of being a woman and a mother along the way. And I firmly believe that if I can do it, you can, too. I believe in you!

I want you to know that I see you. If you’re anything like me, I know you’re a strong woman (or girl!), in the thick of the fight, playing by the rules but finding that the promises of feminism are still coming up short.

Sexism, the boys’ club, constantly getting hit on, the virgin/whore dichotomy, feeling unable to relate to mainstream academic feminism…whatever it is you’re going through, chances are I’ve been there, my friends. And my mission is to help sisters like you become fortresses of strength, renewed with confidence and resilience while still staying in touch with your femininity.

You got this! But we’re in it together.

If you see yourself in my words, you’re not alone. Join me in a community of women who are stepping into their power and becoming their strongest, most vibrant selves! You can start by checking out Atalanta Athletes, Executive, Tactical, Empowerment, Next-Gen, and Self-Defense pages to see which one might be a best fit for you. And if you don’t know where to start, head straight to the Empowerment page for a jump start! Let’s do this thing!

In Solidarity,

Alice

Who is Atalanta?

I’m so happy you asked.

Atalanta, a legendary figure from Greek mythology, embodies the spirit of strength and independence. Born to a king, she was abandoned as a child due to her father's disappointment in having a daughter. However, fate intervened when a bear discovered her on a mountain and cared for her until she was found by hunters. Raised in the wilderness, Atalanta grew into a skilled huntress, inspired by the goddess Artemis. She even participated in the famous Calydonian boar hunt, where she proved her bravery and prowess alongside renowned male heroes.

As Atalanta matured, her father urged her to marry, but she was determined to choose her own path. She devised a clever challenge: she would marry the man who could outrun her. Many suitors attempted but failed until Hippomenes, with the help of Aphrodite, used enchanted apples to distract her during the race. Each time Atalanta caught up, he would drop an apple, and she couldn't resist stopping to pick it up, giving him the edge he needed to win. Eventually, Hippomenes succeeded, and they married. Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived. They forgot to honor Aphrodite, leading to a tragic transformation into lions as punishment. Despite the tragic end, Atalanta's story remains a powerful testament to female strength and determination.

An Icon of Female Empowerment

The mythical goddess Atalanta serves as a powerful inspiration for the Atalanta Leadership Forge's mission and purpose. Atalanta, a skilled huntress and swift runner in Greek mythology, embodies many qualities that align with our goals:

  1. Breaking barriers: Atalanta challenged gender norms by excelling in traditionally male-dominated activities. Similarly, the Atalanta Leadership Forge aims to empower individuals, especially women, to break barriers in leadership roles across various sectors.

  2. Resilience and determination: Atalanta's unwavering focus on her goals reflects the organization's emphasis on building resilience and mental toughness in leaders.

  3. Athletic prowess: Atalanta's physical abilities mirror the Forge's integration of athletic principles into leadership development, recognizing the connection between physical and mental strength.

  4. Embracing challenges: Just as Atalanta faced numerous trials, the Forge prepares leaders to confront and overcome obstacles in their personal and professional lives.

  5. Forging new paths: Atalanta's unique journey parallels the Forge's mission to help individuals carve out their own leadership paths, whether in corporate settings, military roles, or athletic pursuits.

By invoking the spirit of Atalanta,we emphasize the importance of courage, skill, and determination in developing strong, authentic leaders who can excel in various arenas, from boardrooms to battlefields!
